Redesign Considerations for PerfectMind Platform (Q1 2017) 

Proposal 1: re-designing to improve user experience when creating filtered contact views.  Empower the user to complete their task faster and with a less distracting interface.

- Simplification of graphical elements to decrease the cognitive “weight” of the interface’s combination of fields, lines, lists, and blocks.
- Consolidation of ‘Actions’ in rethinking the interaction design helps diminish the cognitive load of the interface. Drop-down menus for the same family of actions lend to minimalistic aesthetic while out taking away user control and power. 
- Create a new organization scheme (such as the file folder tabbing) to provide more system status changes and streamline a more contemporary aesthetic.
- Streamline visual language for icons, buttons, links, and content types. 

Proposal 2: empower the user to register for events faster with a less distracting interface. Secondary portion includes a mobile mockup.

- Increasing negative space for quicker identification of information classification (i.e. Events, Dates, Times, etc.)
- Collapsing detailed information to allow users to decide whether they want to view more past critical data. 
- Proposed a mobile device view to exemplify how the simplification and visual hierarchy of written content can be clearer without excessive line and block formatting. 


GRIZZLY MAN: Android App Design for the Next Generation of (Novice) Outdoor Explorers


To create an information system through wireless technology, improving digital experiences for extended periods of time.

With a high quantity of information related to camping that are hard to consume and use we consolidated 4 main topics for amateur-novice campers. Covering food and survival; shelter; hazards; and treatment, each specific subject was limited to 4 pages (swipe navigation) presented in graphic illustrations/ infographics with limited text. Keeping the information lite allowed for accessibility during passive interaction such as moments around the campfire or in between hiking.

Redesign PROTOTYPING: ZARA Mobile App Landing Page to Checkout Interaction (iOS, v. 1.19.1) 

Proposal: interface changes to the catalogue app for clothing retailer, ZARA, to increase conversion of e-commerce customers from app launch to shopping bag checkout. By redesigning the way content is displayed, users will spend less time scrolling through unrelated options and find products that match their criteria in shorter periods of time.  

Nielsen's Heuristics 

  • Efficiency of use Landing page currently requires scrolling to view all options when they can be displayed at once to shorten time from app launch to check-out. 
  • Consistency and standards Unclear on why navigation visibility currently varies between different product views (e.g. no menu bar for grid gallery when browsing). The app takes text input but does not currently support product filtering like its desktop site.

Low Fidelity Intervention
Time spent from landing screen through to product view and checkout can be minimized and streamlined by eliminating scrolling of Sale, Collection, Editorial, and Gift Cards buttons with initial app launch. By displaying all types of purchases, users are able to view all options at once. Utilizing filtering within product gallery views users will be able to narrow searches or navigate from product to product. The option to Refine within categories now matches that of the desktop site. The app is pleasant with its expanding menus and minimalist aesthetic. 


Research and Re-design Methods, HCI and Cognition: Indigo Touch (early 2010 gen.) 

Indigo Touch, an iPhone application, allows users to control home temperatures, lighting, and other elements. At the time of evaluation and redesign, the app had misleading icons, poor organization, several navigation issue, and a severe lack of security features. Research was conducted to get a better understanding of each issue/ area of improvement. Utilizing our feedback, we prototyped 2 low-fidelity solutions and their respective user studies and testing. We aimed to create a more efficient navigation menu; increase application security; and increase the ease of use for our selected target audience (iPhone/ iPod users).
